Acorns Day Nursery opened its doors in 1996 and has been welcoming families with warmth and enthusiasm ever since. We are located on Alphington Road, one of the main commuter routes into Exeter. Close to the city centre, we are the perfect choice for the busy, working parent.

The nursery is registered with Ofsted for children from 0 – 5 years. Our experienced and qualified staff aim to create an environment in which the children feel loved, safe and supported. Our most recent Ofsted inspection was in August 2017. The Nursery was judged as Outstanding, with Ofsted complimenting our staff as being highly skilled, quick to adapt activities to children’s ideas. Our children are very well supported. Ofsted commented that our youngest children become highly effective communicators, establishing strong attachments to our sensitive caring staff and friendships with each other. We are a very happy home away from home, with a strong family ethos!

Opening Times and Funding

Modern working life can often mean longer hours in the office and we know how important it is to parents to be there when they need us.

We’re open five days a week between 7.45am and 6pm, all year-round (excluding bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year).

Here’s a helpful guide to our daily timetable:

Full Day 7.45am – 6pm
Morning  Session 7.45am – 1pm
Afternoon Session 1 – 6pm
Extended Funding Session Timings
8.30am – 1.05pm / 1.05pm – 5.40pm
Breakfast Club 7.45 – 8.30am
Extended Breakfast Club  (Available to Universal and 2 Year Old funding streams – additional charge) 7.45 – 9.20am
Late Club 5.40 – 6pm
Extended Late Club (Available to Universal and 2 Year Old funding streams – additional charge) 4.30 – 6pm

We offer places for both Universal (15 hours/week, term-time only or 11 hours a week all year round) and Extended (22.8 hours/week all year round) Early Years childcare funding options for children aged between 3 and 5 years old.

We appreciate that term-time only funding (39 weeks) does not work for many parents/carers, so we’re pleased to offer funded places stretched out over 50 weeks. This means that you would be entitled to fewer funded hours per week, but this would cover more of the year:

• 15 hours per week over 33 weeks becomes 11 hours stretched over 50 weeks
• 30 hours per week over 33 weeks becomes 22.8 hours stretched over 50 weeks

Universal childcare funding begins from the start of the academic term after your child’s third birthday.

Contact us to determine your eligibility for 30 hours funded childcare, or follow this link: https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare

We also offer funded places to 2 year olds. Check your eligibility here.

Why choose Acorns Day Nursery?

Acorns Day Nursery is set within a spacious, three storey, converted house. It really is a home away from home! We are located on one of the main arteries into Exeter, on Alphington Road, close to Exeter city centre and the A30, A38 and M5. This makes us the perfect childcare setting of choice for the busy, commuting parent.

Our children enjoy lots of space to learn and grow. We have four base rooms within the nursery as well as rooms of which all children can make use. Plus, we are very lucky to enjoy three gardens, each with its own character and play equipment…we even have a mud kitchen area! Our children love to explore, create and play together in the fresh air.

We place our children at the heart of everything we do. They are sources of joy and laughter and it is our honour to help them achieve their full potential. We love celebrating every child’s success and strive to ensure they leave us completely ready for their next adventures at primary school.
