Tic Tocs Day Nursery is tucked away in a quiet part of Exeter city centre – a hidden gem!

Our Rooms

Our rooms are spacious and full of opportunities for imaginative play and learning. We have a lovely urban garden, just ready for your little one to enjoy.

Our Ladybirds, aged 0 – 2 years old, are based in a cosy room, complete with reading and play den. Different toys and sensory activities are available for the children so that they can access a range of experiences throughout the day. We have a cot room for the babies to have their naps. Babies’ sleep patterns can be very varied and we work closely with you to make sure these are adopted in the room. As well as the cot room, there are quiet areas where the children can have relaxed time away from the main group and can share stories/songs with their key person. We provide daily Heuristic play sessions, allowing the children to explore natural resources such as wooden and metal objects. We also have sensory toys, soft toys, ICT toys, small world toys, building blocks and much more, which are all provided to encourage physical, social, emotional, intellectual and creative development.

The Cubs (2 -3 years old) have their home at the back of the nursery, with plenty of space to get stuck into some creative activities and learning opportunities. Every day, the Cubs children enjoy movement, balance and coordination activities which will help them in the future with writing and fine manipulative skills. The children enjoy a story time before they get ready for lunch and we like to use ‘Story Sacks’ to engage and involve children in the stories. The Story Sacks contain props and additional games which relate to the story and are shared with the children.

Our Pre-School , aged 3 – 4 years, are bursting with energy and enthusiasm. Their spacious room mixes learning and play using a variety of activity stations, preparing the children for starting school. Throughout the day the children have ‘registration times’ where the children discuss their feelings and talk about the nursery rules, which they have helped create. There are small group times led by Key People where the children learn about early Phonics, recognising their names, letter sounds, numbers, shapes and measure.

When we can, we love putting our exploring shoes on and heading out into Exeter, making the most of what our lovely city has to offer. There are regular outings to the local parks, museum, cathedral and library.

Children are encouraged to learn excellent table manners and social skills. Food is made on site by a dedicated qualified cook, using fresh ingredients. We love trying new, tasty and nutritious food at Tic Tocs, and often incorporate the different cultures of our children into the food that is prepared and celebrate different seasonal and annual events. We ensure that we provide healthy, balanced and nutritious meals, snacks and drinks. Children have access to fresh drinking water at all times. The nursery does not serve any pork or pork based product out of respect for cultural diets. We never pressure children, and understand that children need regular and repeated chances to taste new foods.

A Day in the Life of…

We strive to offer the warmest of welcomes to all of our families and look forward to greeting new faces. From the moment your child steps through the door and hangs up their coat they can look forward to a day of fun with our nursery team..

What will your child do with us after you drop them off? Well, firstly your child will receive a big hug, making sure any worries about the day ahead are quickly put to bed. We’ve got an exciting day ahead!

Before 9.00am:

Drop off and breakfast to kick start the day, and give your child the energy they need to focus and get involved in our activities.

Fuelled up and ready to go, our children enjoy some morning activities to encourage their development. They learn through play and from guidance by our team of nursery practitioners.

Morning snack at approximately 10am.

Then, an array of activities designed to stimulate your child’s development. For example, our Cubs will enjoy a ‘Funky Fingers’ session, aimed to help hone fine motor skills. During this session music is played and activities such as threading, painting with cotton buds, play dough and using tweezers take place.

Lunch at around 12noon.

Perhaps a post-lunch trip out into the city centre to explore our senses. What sights, sounds, smells and textures can we experience? Let’s not leave out our sense of taste…we know we can find an ice cream or two!

An all important afternoon snack at 2pm.

Maybe it’s time for some messy play! Our Ladybirds love to explore things such as sand and water paint, gloop, rice pudding, jelly, noodles, pasta and lentils.

4pm is tea time!

Pick up time is dependent on your booking, but rest assured that we will ensure your child remains engaged and happy.

We work hard to make sure your child experiences an engaging and stimulating day. Of course, the day is interspersed with naps, bottle feeding and nappy changing, according to your child’s needs.

Learning and Development

We educate children by providing environments and learning invitations that encourage them to explore, discover, investigate, enquire, unearth and detect.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. It is the statutory framework that sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are emotionally and developmentally ready for school. Children are given the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress throughout school and life. Children develop quickly from birth to five years old, and it is vital to ensure they are given an excellent learning foundation.
